Far Cry
Info
A tropical paradise seethes with hidden evil in Far Cry, a
cunningly detailed action shooter that pushes the boundaries of combat
to shocking new levels.
Freelance mariner Jack Carver is cursing the day he ever came to this
island. A week ago, a brash female reporter named Valerie had offered
him an incredible sum of cash to take her to this unspoiled paradise.
Shortly after docking, however, Jack’s boat was greeted by artillery
fire from a mysterious militia group swarming about the island.
With his boat destroyed, his money gone, and the gorgeous Valerie
suddenly missing, Jack now finds himself facing an army of mercenaries
amidst the wilds of the island, with nothing but a gun and his wits to
survive. But the further he pushes into the lush jungle canopy, the
stranger things become.
Jack encounters an insider within the militia group, who reveals the
horrific details of the mercenaries’ true intentions. He presents Jack
with an unsettling choice: battle the deadliest mercenaries, or condemn
the human race to a maniac’s insidious agenda.

How-To-Play On-line
Ubisoft shut down their original on-line service for Far Cry,
rendering only LAN games possible even on the latest patch. You can grab
a fixed library that will allow you to connect to servers outside of a
LAN, at your own risk.
Note: You need to forward the port
64100 on UDP in order to host a game
over the Internet.

Notes
- There’s 3 multiplayer modes. Free For All,
Team Death Match and Assault.
- There’s 3 classes to play in Assault.
Grunt, Sniper and
Engineer. Their loadouts differ.
- When patched to v1.4, you can turn on high-dynamic-range
rendering with iris adaptation and flares.
Open the console and set
r_hdrrendering to 7 .
Anti-aliasing the game provides can conflict with it, so turn that off
if you are having any rendering issues.
- The last patch v1.4 introduces a bug with the game its artificial
intelligence, allowing them to see through models like tents. The
GOG version has a fix, while the Steam version does
not.
- Due to the intense difficulty, CryTek at one point added
the (unsupported)
\save_game savegamename console command.
Keep in mind that Actor/NPC behaviour usually gets scrubbed, breaking
combat/firefights and making them easier.
- The game was re-imagined on the Xbox as Far Cry:
Instincts. It follows this one, until doing its own thing. It
comes with Feral Abilities which like the Crysis Nanosuit giving you different types
of combat interaction. CryTek however did not develop
Instincts, that was done by Ubisoft
Montreal.
- The game was given away to North American residents for
free by Ubisoft on September 1st 2007 in a Labor Day
promotion with a version that displayed adverts during loading
screens.
- On February 4th 2004, the CryTek offices in Coburg
(as well as the residence of CEO Cevat Yerli) were raided by police to
check for warez. Nothing was found. It delayed the work on the game by 3
hours.
- The AMD64 Upgrade and Content Pack files add
exclusive levels that can only run on the 64-bit version of CryEngine.
Check them out.
